Our Curriculum

Article 29: Your education should help you use and develop your talents and abilities.

Our Discovery Curriculum (which encompasses the foundation subjects of the 2014 National Curriculum) is fundamental to the delivery of our vision to be:

an excellent school, where outstanding practice, equality and well-being are at the heart of all that we do.

The curriculum also plays a key role in how our school’s Core Values; Aspiration, Excellence, Nurture, Respect, Equality, Resilience, Collaboration, Creativity, and Courage are brought to life and embedded throughout the pupils’ learning experiences.

Intent

In an ever changing world our curriculum must equip our children with the knowledge, skills, confidence and ambition to succeed in future industries and technologies - some of which are not yet known to us.  Our ‘WE ARE,’ intent is based on five key principles: Wellbeing, Equality, Aspiration, Relevance and Environment

Implementation

With considered choices and support from educational consultants (Helen Youngman, Chris Quigley and, Jonny Allams) our subject leaders and year group leaders have mapped out the content of the national curriculum for each subject to encourage cross curricular learning and to ensure that the content builds logically and progressively each year starting from the EYFS profile.

Subsequently our pupils receive a breadth, depth and balance of learning which will support their transition to secondary school and provide the foundations for success at KS3, KS4 and beyond.

Impact

The ultimate impact of our curriculum is the realisation of our intent and vision; for Penwortham to be an excellent school, where outstanding practice, equality and well-being are at the heart of all that we do.  Pupils will transition to secondary school equipped with the knowledge, cultural capital and wellbeing essential to prolonged success;
