Article 29: Every child has the right to develop to their full potential.

PE at Penwortham Primary School plays a vital part of everyday school life. All pupils have two hours of PE timetabled each week to cover the six main areas of the National Curriculum (dance, gymnastics, games, swimming, athletics, and outdoor and adventurous activities).  Swimming is offered for children in KS2. A healthy lifestyle is also promoted.

Fun, enjoyment, confidence, competence and self-esteem are the forefront of our PE delivery. Children in Nursery, Reception and KS1 develop the fundamental skills such as aiming and throwing, balance, co-ordination, control, and movement. In KS2 children are able to use these fundamental skills to develop their knowledge and understanding of invasion games such as football, basketball, netball, tag rugby and hockey. These skills are also transferrable to striking and fielding games such as cricket and tri golf, together with net games such as tennis.

Children are given the opportunity to participate in the local school primary school games festivals and competitions. We have enjoyed much success competing at county and regional level.

As a school we feel community sports links are essential and we therefore work closely with the local football, rugby, cricket, athletics, gymnastics, dance, golf, and swimming clubs. We liaise with the local Sports Development Officer for Wandsworth District Council as well as our school games organiser Nick Miller at Southfields Academy.

Keeping Active At Home

It is really important to apply everything you have learned in PE into your daily lives to stay healthy and active. Try to get outside and play as much as you can to keep yourselves active.

Here are some daily workouts and challenges for you to try out and also some links to some fun websites with activities that you can try.

If you have any of the equipment we have used, you can practice reviewing or working on any of the skills that we’ve learned in PE this year.
