Rufus(6W), Niamh(6W), Oliver(5C) and Poppy(4L) travelled to Southfields Academy to take part in the Wandsworth School Games Year 6 Tennis Competition against 3 other schools. The team played a boys doubles, a girls doubles and 2 mixed doubles timed matches against each school.

The team played some fantastic tennis beating St Marys 4-0 and Honeywell 3-1 in their first two matches. In their final match the team played Our Lady Queen of Victories who had also won both of their two opening matches. The match finished 2-2 . So the final result was decided by points difference. Unfortunately Penwortham narrowly missed out by a couple of points, but the team done really well to finish runners up.

Well done to Poppy in Year 4 who not only played exceptionally well against children 2 years older then her, she was also award the sportsmanship award by the competition organisers.

Penwortham’s newly formed girl’s football team entered the Wandsworth Girls’ Super League for the first time earlier in the term. The League ran for 4 weeks at Broadwater Primary School and saw the girls play 3 matches each Monday against other local schools. The girls all committed to training before school on Fridays and played some great football, improving each week as the League went on. After some fantastic team performances Penwortham finished the season with a very impressive record of 12 played, 10 won with just 2 defeats scoring 26 goals and conceding only 4. This meant that Penwortham finished top of the League and were crowned Girls’ Football League winners!

Well done to Shay, Daisy C., Eve, Daisy R., Jessica, Ayla, Poppy and Shannai.   You are fantastic role models for the younger children at our school, and we look forward to defending our title next year!
